Bound body and neck, onboard tuner, "under-bridge" pickup
Sound : 9
It seems to favour the treble side, but for basic rhythm work it works well. It's well-suited for songs with a focus on acoustic rhythm, like Barenaked Ladies' Brian Wilson.
When plugged in, it has a bright sound, though the low E string remains dull. Sliding the bass higher on the EQ solves the problem, and gives it a well-rounded tone.
Everyone who's played it has complimented it- and been surprised at the price. One has even tried to buy one, though they don't seem to be sold anymore.
Action, Fit, & Finish : 5
When I first received it, there was fret buzzing. A truss-rod adjustment fixed the problem. Since then, there hasn't been any trouble.
The finish is a little flaky - in the literal sense of the word. I threw a tissue box to the trash bin one day, and missed - hitting the top of the guitar, and the black finished had flaked off.
The binding around the neck is a little sloppy, but only noticable if you're looking for it.
Reliability/Durability : 8
I've done some damage to this guitar...
After a show one night, holding it by the neck, I managed to drop it. The bottom edge (where the sides meet the back) splintered, but didn't shatter. There was absolutely no damage done to the side, but the back has a small rough patch now. A quick touch-up hides it from the eye, but you can tell it's there. The binding didn't break at all.
The finish won't take much abuse. General playing is fine, but I'd keep it covered, at least, if you're not.
At some point in the time I've had it, one of the braces has cracked. It doesn't effect playing at all, but I don't know how it happened. It was recent, and certainly not a manufacturing problem.
Customer Support : No Opinion
I never tried to deal with the warranty, and thinking about it now, I don't think it even came with information.
Overall Rating : 9
I've only played guitar for a few years (though I've played other instruments far longer), but this one is very nice for the money.
If I lost it, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy another one, but I'd try to find something very similar when replacing it. If I was offered another, I'd certainly take it.
For most of my guitar playing, this sits right next to my Epiphone Casino, and gets just as much. For acoustic shows, I have no regrets taking this one to the stage.
